Match Report
Ferencvaros produced a ruthless counter-attacking display to beat Braga 2-0 in the first leg of their Europa League Round of 16 tie at the Groupama Arena. Despite holding just 30% possession, the Hungarian side struck twice to take a commanding lead into next week's second leg.
Gavriel Kanichowsky opened the scoring on 32 minutes, firing into the corner after being teed up by Lenny Joseph on the edge of the box. Braga dominated the ball and racked up 11 corners but simply couldn't find a way through.
Joseph then got on the scoresheet himself in the 68th minute, finishing powerfully after Cebrails Makreckis picked him out with a driving run down the right. A deserved reward for a player involved in both goals on the night.
Ferencvaros carry a two-goal cushion to Portugal, leaving Braga with a mountain to climb in the return leg. A disciplined defensive showing and ruthless finishing could well see the Hungarians through to the quarter-finals.
