Match Report
Anderlecht produced a stunning comeback at Lotto Park on Sunday, coming from behind to beat Gent 3-1 and grab a crucial win in the Belgian Pro League championship play-offs.
Gent struck first when Wilfried Kanga stepped up to convert a VAR-awarded penalty in the 22nd minute. The visitors defended stubbornly as Anderlecht pressed with 65% possession but little reward. The deadlock finally broke in the 79th minute when Yari Verschaeren leveled. What followed was extraordinary: Tristan Degreef turned the tie in Anderlecht's favor in the 93rd minute, then Adriano Bertaccini drove the knife in further in the 97th to complete a breathless turnaround.
The three points are badly needed for Anderlecht after a 4-2 opening defeat away at Club Brugge. Gent, who failed to win their opener against Mechelen either, now face a steep uphill task in the race for the title.
