FC Alverca vs Sporting CP

Sporting CP cruised to a commanding 4-1 victory at Alverca on Saturday, with Pedro Gonçalves stealing the show with a superb brace. The win keeps Sporting firmly in the title hunt, closing to within four points of league leaders Porto. Gonçalves opened the scoring on 22 minutes before Luís Suárez doubled the advantage five minutes into the second half. Geny Catamo added a third in the 68th minute, assisted by Morten Hjulmand, to put the result beyond doubt. Substitute Marezi pulled one back for the hosts in the 83rd minute, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed as Gonçalves restored the three-goal cushion just three minutes later with his second of the afternoon. The result lifts Sporting to 65 points in second place, keeping the pressure on Porto at the summit. For Alverca, stuck in 12th on 29 points, it was another tough afternoon against one of the big boys.
