Match Report

Germany U19 came from behind to beat Slovakia U19 3-2 in a May 27 friendly, with two coolly taken second-half penalties sealing a dramatic comeback win for the visitors. Germany broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, but Slovakia staged a spirited fightback. Samuel Kovacik levelled just before the break in the 45th minute, and two minutes after the restart Adam Zulevic put the hosts 2-1 up. Germany refused to buckle: Otto Stange stepped up to convert a penalty in the 70th minute and restore parity, then Francis Onyeka — on loan at VfL Bochum from Bayer Leverkusen — struck from the spot in the 80th to complete the turnaround. For Germany, it is another timely confidence boost ahead of the UEFA Euro U19 tournament in Wales, where they have already secured their place. Slovakia will take heart from a performance that had them ahead going into the final quarter — the two late spot kicks the only thing separating the sides.
