Match Report
Mainz snatched a dramatic 2-2 draw against Stuttgart after Danny da Costa pounced on a rebound deep in stoppage time to deny the visitors all three points at the MEWA Arena.
Jae-sung Lee headed the hosts in front from a corner on 39 minutes after Mainz had earlier seen a Phillip Tietz effort controversially disallowed. Stuttgart looked beaten before flipping the script with two goals in two minutes — Ermedin Demirovic equalising on 76 before Deniz Undav fired them ahead on 78.
Mainz refused to lie down. Mwene's header crashed off the crossbar and da Costa was there to tap home the rebound in the 91st minute, sparking wild scenes.
The point keeps Mainz 14th on 24 points, just one clear of the relegation playoff zone. For fourth-placed Stuttgart on 47 points, it feels like two dropped in the Champions League race.
