Match Report

Newly promoted Schalke pulled off one of the surprises of the young Bundesliga season, holding champions Bayern Munich scoreless at the Veltins-Arena despite being outshot 15-4 and seeing barely any of the ball. The story of the afternoon was goalkeeper Loris Karius, who made five saves and was named Man of the Match for a near-flawless display between the posts. There were no goals, but plenty of drama. Harry Kane, introduced from the bench alongside Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala, nearly won it late with a rasping 25-yard effort that Karius somehow tipped over the bar as it dipped toward the top corner. Alphonso Davies was Bayern's brightest attacking threat, while Schalke's back line of Timo Becker, Nikola Katic and Hasan Kurucay stood firm throughout under manager Miron Muslic. The point ends Bayern Munich's remarkable 67-matchday run atop the Bundesliga table and marks their first scoreless draw since February 2025. For Schalke, it's a badly needed first point after an opening-day 3-0 defeat to Augsburg, and a defensive statement in their return to the top flight.
