Corinthians vs Platense

Platense pulled off a memorable away performance at Neo Química Arena, defeating Corinthians 2-0 to clinch their spot in the Copa Libertadores Round of 16, a historic feat for the Argentine side in their continental debut. Franco Zapiola was the decisive figure, scoring both goals. He opened from the penalty spot in the 20th minute after VAR confirmed a handball by Rodrigo Garro inside the area. Zapiola doubled the lead on 56 minutes, pouncing on a reckless short pass from goalkeeper Hugo Souza that gifted him an open net. Late drama unfolded when referee Alexis Herrera pointed to the spot for Corinthians, only for VAR to overturn the call after finding no contact. The result sends Platense through as Group E runners-up with 10 points, an extraordinary achievement for a first-time Libertadores side. Corinthians exit the group stage, having failed to deliver on home soil when it mattered most.
