The Suriname national football team, governed by the Surinaamse Voetbal Bond (SVB) and affiliated with FIFA and CONCACAF, has undergone a significant transformation in recent years. After decades of modest results, Suriname capitalised on FIFA's eligibility rule changes to recruit Dutch-Surinamese players — many of whom had played for Dutch Eredivisie clubs. This influx of quality talent dramatically raised the team's profile. They reached the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the first time in 2019 and repeated the feat in subsequent editions, defeating established nations along the way. Notable players have included Nigel Hasselbaink, Gleofilo Vlijter, and Stanley Elbers. Home matches are played at Andre Kamperveen Stadion in Paramaribo. Suriname's story is one of the most compelling reinventions in Caribbean football, blending diaspora talent with local pride to create a genuinely competitive CONCACAF side.
