Hungary's national football team, known as the Mighty Magyars, is one of the most historically significant sides in world football. In the early 1950s, the Golden Team — featuring legendary players Ferenc Puskás, Sándor Kocsis, and Zoltán Czibor — went 32 matches unbeaten and reached the 1954 World Cup final. Hungary won Olympic gold in 1952 and 1964. Though they narrowly lost the 1954 World Cup final to West Germany, they remain one of Europe's most storied footballing nations. Hungary qualified for UEFA Euro 2016, 2020 (played 2021), and finished in a tough group with France, Portugal, and Germany at Euro 2020. Dominik Szoboszlai of Liverpool now leads the current generation as captain, reviving national football ambitions across the country.
