Singapore
The Singapore national football team, nicknamed the Lions, is governed by the Football Association of Singapore. The team competes in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers and FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Singapore's most successful era came in the 1990s and early 2000s under the ASEAN Football Federation Championship — formerly Tiger Cup — winning the competition four times (1998, 2004, 2007, 2012). The Lions historically benefited from the S-League's professional competition and a policy of fielding naturalised players. The team plays home matches at the Singapore National Stadium, one of Asia's most modern venues with a capacity of 55,000. In recent years Singapore has focused on developing local talent through youth academies and the Singapore Premier League, working towards returning to the ASEAN championship podium.
