Kuwait
The Kuwait national football team, governed by the Kuwait Football Association, has historically been one of the stronger sides in the Arabian Gulf region and Asian football. Kuwait's greatest achievement was winning the 1980 AFC Asian Cup, held on home soil, defeating South Korea in the final. They also qualified for the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain, their only World Cup appearance, famously appearing in the incident where Prince Fahd demanded the team leave the pitch during a match. Domestically strong in the Gulf, Kuwait has also won numerous Gulf Cup of Nations titles. The national team faced FIFA suspension between 2015 and 2017 due to government interference but returned to international football and continues to compete in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers and World Cup qualifying cycles.
