Hamburger SV
Hamburger SV, founded in 1887 as SC Germania and formally constituted under its current name in 1919, is one of Germany's oldest and most storied clubs, playing at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg. The club won six German championships and the 1983 European Cup by defeating Juventus, and legendary forward Uwe Seeler symbolised the club's working-class pride across two decades. For 55 years HSV were the only remaining founding member of the 1963 Bundesliga never to have been relegated — until 2018, when that record was shattered. After seven years in the 2. Bundesliga and multiple heartbreaking near-misses, HSV secured promotion back to the Bundesliga in May 2025, returning one of German football's sleeping giants to the top flight.
