Club Atletico Aldosivi was founded on 14 June 1913 in the port city of Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires province, Argentina. Named after the Almirante Brown, Dorrego, and Villa neighborhoods that merged to form the club, Aldosivi is known as 'El Tiburon' (The Shark), reflecting the maritime identity of Mar del Plata. The club plays at the Estadio Jose Maria Minella, with a capacity of around 23,000 spectators. Aldosivi spent much of its history competing in the second division before earning promotion to the Primera Division. The club has experienced periods in both the top and second tiers of Argentine football. As the most supported club in Argentina's premier beach resort city, Aldosivi holds a unique place in Argentine football and is a source of great local pride for the people of Mar del Plata.
