US Boulogne is a French football club founded in 1898 and based in Boulogne-sur-Mer, a coastal city in the Pas-de-Calais department of northern France. The club achieved its greatest moment in 2009 when they were promoted to Ligue 1 for the first time in their history, competing against France's elite clubs for two seasons before being relegated. Boulogne plays its home matches at the Stade de la Libération. The club is known as the Corsaires (The Corsairs), a nod to the city's rich maritime heritage as one of France's busiest fishing and ferry ports. Deeply embedded in the working-class culture of northern France, Boulogne has a passionate local following that has supported the club through significant financial and sporting difficulties in recent decades.
