Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, founded in 1877 by pupils of St Luke's School in Blakenhall and one of the 12 founding members of the Football League in 1888, plays at the 31,700-capacity Molineux Stadium — in continuous use since 1889. The club's golden era under Stan Cullis in the 1950s produced three First Division titles (1953-54, 1957-58, 1958-59) and two FA Cups, and their famous floodlit friendly victories over European clubs at Molineux directly inspired the creation of the European Cup by UEFA. Iconic captain Billy Wright became England's first player to earn 100 caps. After decades of decline and lower-division football, Wolves were transformed by Chinese owners Fosun International from 2016: under Nuno Espírito Santo they won the Championship with a then-record 99 points in 2017-18 and re-established themselves emphatically in the Premier League, reaching the Europa League quarter-finals in 2020 with a technically polished, tactically disciplined team.
