Sunderland

Sunderland AFC, founded in 1879, is one of England's most historic clubs, based in Sunderland in the northeast of England. After years in the Championship, the club is back in the Premier League playing at the Stadium of Light, a magnificent 49,000-capacity ground that opened in 1997. Known as the Black Cats, Sunderland won six First Division titles, the last in 1936, and the FA Cup twice. The club has a passionate and devoted fanbase, widely regarded as among the loudest in England. Sunderland's story was brought to global attention by the Netflix documentary series Sunderland 'Til I Die. After tumbling to League One, the club fought back under Mick Beale's predecessors, regaining their place among England's elite with an identity built around passionate, combative football.
