Al Ahly
Al Ahly Sporting Club, founded on April 24, 1907, in Cairo during the British colonial era and taking its name — meaning 'The National' — as a symbol of Egyptian identity and resistance, is the most decorated club in African football history and was declared African Club of the Century by CAF in 2000. The club plays at Cairo International Stadium and has won the Egyptian Premier League 42 times, the Egypt Cup 36 times, and a record 12 CAF Champions League titles — including back-to-back victories in 2020 and 2021 under South African coach Pitso Mosimane. With an estimated fanbase of tens of millions across Egypt and the Arab world, Al Ahly are arguably the most supported club in Africa. Midfielder Mohamed Aboutrika, considered one of the greatest African players of his generation, was the defining figure of their dominant early-2000s era.
