Deportivo Saprissa
Deportivo Saprissa, founded in 1935 in San Juan de Tibás, San José, is the most successful and widely supported football club in Costa Rica. Known as El Monstruo Morado (The Purple Monster), the club has won a record 38 Primera División titles, making them the undisputed kings of Costa Rican football. Saprissa plays home matches at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá, which holds 23,112 spectators and is considered one of the most intimidating venues in CONCACAF. The club has won the CONCACAF Champions League three times (1993, 1995, 2005), establishing a strong regional reputation. Notable alumni include Paulo Wanchope, Rolando Fonseca, and Keylor Navas. Today Saprissa continues to dominate domestically while competing regularly in CONCACAF continental competitions.
