The Costa Rica national football team, known as Los Ticos, is Central America's most successful international side. Founded in 1921 and governed by FEDEFUTBOL, the team plays home matches at the Estadio Nacional in San José (capacity 35,175). Costa Rica has qualified for the FIFA World Cup six times, most memorably reaching the quarter-finals at Brazil 2014 after topping a group containing Uruguay, Italy and England. Star goalkeeper Keylor Navas became a legend of the era, winning three UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid. Other celebrated players include Bryan Ruiz, Paulo Wanchope, and Ronald González. Costa Rica has also won three CONCACAF Gold Cups and remains the dominant force in Central American football, consistently challenging Mexico and the United States for regional supremacy.
