Fortaleza
Fortaleza Esporte Clube is one of northeastern Brazil's most historically significant football clubs, founded in 1918 in the city of Fortaleza, the capital of Ceará state. The club competes in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and the Copa do Nordeste, and has become one of the most consistently competitive sides from the northeast of Brazil in recent decades. They play home matches at the Estádio Governador Plácido Aderaldo Castelo, known as Castelão, an impressive 63,903-capacity arena that hosted matches during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Under coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda from 2021, Fortaleza achieved their best Série A finishes and qualified for the Copa Libertadores, marking a new era of continental ambition for this historic northeastern club.
