Bahia

Esporte Clube Bahia was founded on 1 January 1931 in Salvador, the capital of the Brazilian state of Bahia, through a merger of Associação Atlética da Bahia and Clube Bahiano de Tênis. Playing their home matches at the Arena Fonte Nova, a modern stadium rebuilt for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Bahia compete in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and the Campeonato Baiano. Known as the Esquadrão de Aço (Steel Squadron) and wearing blue, red, and white, the club has won the Brazilian national championship twice — in 1959 and 1988 — making them the only team from outside Brazil's south to achieve this feat twice. They have also claimed around 50 state titles and reached the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores in 1989. In 2023, City Football Group acquired a 90% stake in the club.
