The Brazil national football team, known as the Seleção, is the most successful nation in FIFA World Cup history, having won the tournament a record five times in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002. Brazil won the Copa América nine times and hosted the 2014 FIFA World Cup, suffering a historic 7–1 defeat to Germany in the semi-finals.
