Club Atletico Sarmiento de Junin was founded on 20 February 1911 in the city of Junin, Buenos Aires province, Argentina. The club is named after Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, the celebrated Argentine statesman and educator. Known as 'El Verde' due to its green kit, Sarmiento plays its home matches at the Estadio Eva Peron in Junin. The club spent most of its history in the lower divisions before earning promotion to the Argentine Primera Division, where it has since competed with determination. Sarmiento is the most prominent football club in the city of Junin and represents the agricultural heartland of Buenos Aires province.
