Gimnasia La Plata

Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, commonly known as Gimnasia La Plata, was founded in 1887, making it one of the oldest sports clubs in Argentina. Based in La Plata, Buenos Aires Province, the club competes in the Liga Profesional Argentina and plays home matches at the Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo, which holds 24,544 spectators. Known as El Lobo (The Wolf), Gimnasia has a deep and passionate fan base and a rich history in Argentine football. The club achieved one of football's most emotionally charged moments in 2019 when Diego Maradona took over as coach, drawing enormous global attention and renewed fervour from supporters. Maradona's tenure at Gimnasia was one of the most celebrated stories in Argentine football before his passing in 2020. The club continues to compete with pride in the top flight.
