Club Atletico Banfield was founded on 21 January 1896 in the Banfield district of Lomas de Zamora, Buenos Aires province, Argentina. One of the oldest clubs in the country, Banfield is nicknamed 'El Taladro' (The Drill) and plays in the Argentine Primera Division. The club's home is the Estadio Florencio Sola, known as El Coloso del Sur, with a capacity of around 35,000 spectators. Banfield won its only Argentine Primera Division title in the 2009 Apertura championship under coach Julio Falcioni. The club is well regarded for its youth academy, which has produced several Argentina international players including Sergio Aguero during his formative years. Banfield is a beloved institution in the southern suburbs of Greater Buenos Aires and has a loyal following across the Lomas de Zamora region.
