The Angola national football team, known as the Palancas Negras (Black Sables), is governed by the Federação Angolana de Futebol and competes in both CAF competitions and FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Angola qualified for the FIFA World Cup in 2006 in Germany, their only World Cup appearance to date, where they reached the group stage. They have been regular participants in the Africa Cup of Nations, reaching the quarter-finals in 2008 and 2010. Key historical figures include striker Flávio Amado, longtime top scorer. Angola plays its home matches in Luanda. The domestic league, Girabola, produces talent that feeds both the national team and clubs across Europe and Africa. Angola continues to pursue further AFCON and World Cup qualification under the banner of improving continental standing.
