The Algeria national football team, nicknamed Les Fennecs, is governed by the Algerian Football Federation and has been one of Africa's most successful sides. Founded in 1962 following independence, Algeria became Africa Cup of Nations champions in 1990 and again in 2019 under coach Djamel Belmadi, setting a world record of 35 unbeaten matches. They have appeared at four FIFA World Cups, most famously in 2014 in Brazil where they reached the Round of 16. Playing home matches at Stade Mustapha Tchaker, the team has produced legendary players such as Lakhdar Belloumi, Rabah Madjer, and modern star Riyad Mahrez. Algeria remains a dominant force in CAF competitions and a consistent presence in AFCON finals and World Cup qualifying campaigns.
