The Kosovo national football team, one of football's newest sides, was admitted to FIFA and UEFA in 2016, following Kosovo's declaration of independence in 2008. Governed by the Football Federation of Kosovo, the team has made a remarkable impact in a short time, competing in UEFA Nations League and World Cup qualifying groups. Kosovo famously defeated Finland and Czech Republic in competitive fixtures, announcing themselves as genuine contenders in European football. The team has benefited from dual-nationality players of Kosovar heritage who grew up in Switzerland, Germany, and other countries.
