Portuguesa
Portuguesa FC was founded in 1972 in Acarigua-Araure, a twin city in the Portuguesa state of western Venezuela. The club is one of the most historically successful in Venezuelan football, having won multiple Venezuelan Primera Division titles and participated in the Copa Libertadores on several occasions. They play home matches at Estadio General Jose Antonio Paez, which holds 18,000 spectators. Known informally as Los Granates for their distinctive dark red shirts, Portuguesa have a passionate regional fanbase. The club has historically served as a development ground for Venezuelan talent, and their successes in the 1980s and 1990s helped define an era of Venezuelan club football before the game's broader modernisation in the country.
