The Uganda national football team, nicknamed the Cranes, is governed by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), founded in 1924. Uganda has a proud football tradition in East Africa and qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017 and 2019, returning to the competition after a 39-year absence. They also appeared at the 1978 AFCON. Uganda's most celebrated footballer is Farouk Miya, and striker Patrick Kaddu has been a key figure in recent years. The national stadium is the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala. Uganda has produced players who compete across African leagues and in Europe. The FUFA Big League supports domestic development, and the federation has been active in promoting football at the grassroots level throughout the country.
