The Togo national football team, known as the Sparrowhawks (Les Eperviers), is governed by the Fédération Togolaise de Football. Togo's greatest moment came at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, their only World Cup appearance to date, where they were drawn into a group with France, South Korea, and Switzerland. Their campaign was overshadowed by a pay dispute with officials, but the tournament cemented the legacy of striker Emmanuel Adebayor, one of Africa's most celebrated forwards. Adebayor enjoyed a stellar club career at Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Monaco. Togo has also competed in the Africa Cup of Nations on several occasions. Despite limited resources, Togolese football continues to develop, with hopes of returning to the World Cup stage.
