Tajikistan
The Tajikistan national football team, known as the Zubron, represents the Central Asian nation under the Football Federation of Tajikistan, established following independence from the Soviet Union in 1992. After years of operating in relative obscurity, Tajikistan announced themselves on the continental stage by qualifying for the AFC Asian Cup for the first time in 2023, reaching the tournament held in Qatar. They performed admirably in their debut, defeating Lebanon in the group stage. The team benefits from a growing domestic league and an increasing pool of players competing abroad. Head coach Petar Segrt has been credited with modernising the team's tactical approach. Tajikistan's rise is considered one of the most impressive recent development stories in Asian football.
