Syria
The Syria national football team, known as the Qasioun Eagles, is governed by the Syrian Football Association, which was founded in 1936. Syria competes in the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) and has come remarkably close to qualifying for the FIFA World Cup, reaching the playoffs during the 2018 qualification campaign before narrowly losing to Australia. Despite the hardships caused by years of conflict, the national team has continued to compete internationally and has served as a unifying symbol for the Syrian people. Notable players include Omar Al Soma, one of Asia's top strikers, and Mahmoud Al-Mawas. Syria has also participated in the AFC Asian Cup and continues to develop football infrastructure as the country rebuilds.
