Real Sociedad
Real Sociedad de Fútbol, founded on September 7, 1909, in the Basque coastal city of Donostia-San Sebastián and playing at the modern 39,500-capacity Reale Arena, is a proud emblem of Basque identity and one of La Liga's founding members. The club won back-to-back La Liga championships in 1980-81 and 1981-82 — still the pinnacle of their domestic achievements — and has won the Copa del Rey three times, most recently in 2021 in an emotionally charged all-Basque final against Athletic Club. Real Sociedad have featured in the Champions League group stage three times, including in 2023-24, and are renowned for their Zubieta youth academy, which developed Mikel Oyarzabal and hosted the loan of Martin Ødegaard. Their commitment to Basque footballing identity and technical development makes them one of Spain's most respected clubs.
