Real Oviedo is a Spanish football club founded in 1926 in Oviedo, the capital of the Asturias region in northern Spain. Competing in La Liga, the club plays at the Carlos Tartiere stadium. Known as 'Los Carbayones,' named after the ancient oak trees of Asturias, Oviedo has a proud history in Spanish football that includes notable Primera División campaigns. The club experienced financial difficulties in the early 2000s and was famously saved partly through fan shareholding initiatives, including purchases by overseas supporters. After years in lower divisions, Oviedo returned to the top flight, reuniting with their passionate fanbase. Their blue kit is iconic in Asturias, and the club represents the proud industrial and mining heritage of this distinctive northern Spanish region.
