Mamelodi Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns, founded in 1970 in Pretoria (now Tshwane), South Africa, is the most successful club in South African football history and one of the continent's dominant forces. The club plays home matches at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, which holds 51,762 spectators. Nicknamed 'Masandawana' or 'The Brazilians,' Sundowns have won the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) title a record number of times. Their crowning achievement came in 2016 when they won the CAF Champions League, defeating Zamalek in the final. Under the ownership of billionaire Patrice Motsepe and with coach Rhulani Mokwena guiding the squad, Sundowns have become a continental powerhouse. The club competes regularly in the CAF Champions League group stage and has represented Africa in the FIFA Club World Cup. Players like Themba Zwane and Ronwen Williams have been key figures in recent years.
