The South Africa national football team, known as Bafana Bafana (meaning 'The Boys'), is governed by the South African Football Association (SAFA) and competes in CAF's African football. Formed in 1991 following the end of apartheid and FIFA/CAF reinstatement, Bafana Bafana won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1996, becoming the first host nation to win the tournament. They qualified for the FIFA World Cup in 1998, 2002, and hosted the 2010 edition — the first World Cup held on African soil. Legendary players include Doctor Khumalo, Benni McCarthy, and goalkeeper Hans Vonk. More recently, Percy Tau has been the team's standout talent. Bafana Bafana play home matches at various South African stadiums, most notably FNB Stadium (Soccer City) in Johannesburg, the iconic venue of the 2010 World Cup final.
