Paraguay
The Paraguay national football team, known as La Albirroja, is governed by the Asociacion Paraguaya de Futbol and competes in CONMEBOL. Paraguay has a strong football tradition, qualifying for the FIFA World Cup nine times. Their best World Cup result came in 2010 in South Africa, where they reached the quarter-finals. Paraguay also won the Copa America twice, in 1953 and 1979. Legendary players include Jose Luis Chilavert, the legendary goalkeeper-striker, Roque Santa Cruz, and Salvador Cabanas. Paraguay plays home matches at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco in Asuncion, known for its intimidating atmosphere. The country has consistently produced talented players for South American and European leagues, maintaining a strong footballing culture despite being a relatively small nation.
