The Oman national football team, nicknamed the Reds, is governed by the Oman Football Association and competes in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Oman has emerged as a consistent performer in West Asian football, winning the Gulf Cup of Nations three times, in 2009, 2017, and 2018. The team reached the final round of AFC qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, narrowly missing out. Oman plays its home matches primarily at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat. The squad blends experienced local players with foreign-born Omani internationals. Investment in youth academies and club football infrastructure has steadily improved the national team's competitiveness across the broader Asian continental competitions in recent years.
