The Nicaragua national football team, nicknamed La Azul y Blanco, is governed by the Federacion Nicaraguense de Futbol and competes in CONCACAF. Historically one of Central America's more modest footballing nations, Nicaragua has steadily improved its standing in regional competitions. The team participates in CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifying and the CONCACAF Nations League, where it has progressed through the lower leagues. Nicaragua reached the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the first time in 2023, a landmark achievement for the program. Domestic players ply their trade in the Liga Primera de Nicaragua, while a growing number earn contracts abroad. The national team plays its home matches at the Estadio Nacional de Futbol in Managua, capacity around 8,000.
