The Mexico national football team, known as El Tri, is one of the most storied sides in CONCACAF, having appeared in 17 FIFA World Cup finals including the 1986 edition they hosted, reaching the quarter-finals. Governed by the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol, the team has won the CONCACAF Gold Cup a record 12 times. Mexico consistently qualifies for World Cups and has repeatedly advanced to the Round of 16, famously doing so in seven consecutive tournaments from 1994 to 2018. The squad has produced world-class talent including Hugo Sánchez, Cuauhtémoc Blanco, Rafael Márquez, Javier Hernández (Mexico's all-time top scorer), Guillermo Ochoa, and Hirving Lozano. Playing home matches at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, El Tri remains the dominant force in the CONCACAF region and a perennial World Cup contender.
