Liechtenstein
The Liechtenstein national football team, governed by the Liechtenstein Football Association, is one of European football's most modest sides, having joined FIFA in 1974. With a population of just 40,000, Liechtenstein has never qualified for a major tournament and typically finishes near the bottom of UEFA qualifying groups. However, the team has produced notable upsets, including a famous 2-2 draw against Portugal in 2004 World Cup qualifying. Liechtenstein plays its home matches at the Rheinpark Stadion in Vaduz. The team is entirely composed of semi-professional and amateur players, many of whom play in the Swiss leagues since Liechtenstein has no top professional domestic league. Despite limited resources, the national side takes pride in competitive displays and continues to develop players through a structured youth programme supported by the national federation.
