Laos
The Laos national football team, governed by the Lao Football Federation (founded 1951 and affiliated with FIFA in 1952), is one of Southeast Asia's developing footballing nations, competing within the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) and the AFC. Laos participates in the AFF Championship (ASEAN Cup) and AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, where they compete against stronger Asian sides. The team has historically struggled against the region's more established nations but has shown improvement in recent years. Laos hosted the 2009 SEA Games, which helped boost football infrastructure in the country. Domestically, the Lao Premier League provides the foundation for player development. Laos represents one of football's growing markets in Southeast Asia, with increasing investment in youth development and infrastructure aiming to raise the national team's competitiveness within ASEAN football in the coming years.
