The Kyrgyzstan national football team, governed by the Football Federation of Kyrgyz Republic (founded 1992 following independence), is one of Central Asia's developing footballing nations competing within the AFC. Kyrgyzstan achieved a landmark moment by qualifying for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, their first ever continental tournament, finishing third in their group in Jordan. The team has steadily improved its FIFA rankings over the years, driven by a combination of locally developed players and diaspora talent, including players with Kyrgyz heritage competing in Russia and other European leagues. Mirlan Murzaev has been among their standout players. The national side competes in AFC World Cup qualifying rounds and the AFC Asian Cup qualification. Investment in grassroots football and youth academies is ongoing, with the federation working to raise the standard of the game throughout the country.
