The South Korea national football team, known as the Taeguk Warriors, is one of Asia's premier footballing nations, governed by the Korea Football Association (founded 1928). South Korea co-hosted and memorably reached the semi-finals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, defeating Spain and Italy along the way, guided by coach Guus Hiddink. They have appeared at every World Cup since 1986 and have won the AFC Asian Cup twice (1956, 1960). South Korea reached the Round of 16 in 2010 and 2022. Legendary players include Hong Myung-bo, Park Ji-sung, who captained the national side and starred at Manchester United, Son Heung-min, the Tottenham star and Premier League Golden Boot winner, and Cha Bum-kun. South Korea continues to be Asia's most consistent World Cup participant and a major force in continental football.
