Verona

Hellas Verona FC, founded in 1903, is based in Verona, a beautiful city in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy, famed worldwide as the setting of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Competing in Serie A, the club plays at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi. Known as the Gialloblu, or yellow-blues, Hellas Verona achieved one of Italian football's greatest shocks when they won the Serie A title in the 1984-85 season under coach Osvaldo Bagnoli, ahead of far wealthier rivals. The club later merged with local rivals Chievo Verona for a period before re-establishing its independent identity. Verona is known for passionate, vocal supporters and a combative, physical style of play, consistently punching above their weight in Italian football's top division.
