US Catanzaro is an Italian football club founded in 1927 and based in Catanzaro, the regional capital of Calabria in the toe of Italy's boot. The club plays its home matches at the Stadio Nicola Ceravolo. Catanzaro enjoyed its finest period in the late 1970s and early 1980s when they competed in Serie A, reaching the top flight for three seasons. Known as Le Aquile (The Eagles) and playing in their distinctive yellow and red colors, Catanzaro became a symbol of Calabrian footballing ambition.
