Greece
The Greece national football team, governed by the Hellenic Football Federation (founded 1906), achieved one of the greatest upsets in football history by winning UEFA Euro 2004 in Portugal as 150-1 outsiders. Under coach Otto Rehhagel, Greece played disciplined, defensive football to defeat hosts Portugal twice, including the final, to claim their only major international trophy. The Black-and-Whites qualified for the FIFA World Cup in 1994 and 2010, reaching Germany 2006 via playoffs. Legendary players include Nikos Anastopoulos, Kostas Katsouranis, Theodoros Zagorakis, and Angelos Charisteas, who scored the Euro 2004 final winner. In recent years, Greece have been in a rebuilding phase, competing in UEFA Nations League alongside World Cup qualifying campaigns, with a generation of new players pushing for renewed success.
