Borussia Mönchengladbach

Borussia Mönchengladbach, founded in 1900 in the industrial town of Mönchengladbach in western Germany and nicknamed Die Fohlen (The Foals), had their greatest era in the 1970s under Hennes Weisweiler, winning five Bundesliga titles between 1970 and 1977. The club plays at Borussia-Park, a 54,000-capacity modern stadium opened in 2004, and won the UEFA Cup twice — in 1975 and 1979 — as well as reaching the 1977 European Cup final. Legends of the era include Günter Netzer, Allan Simonsen (1977 Ballon d'Or winner), and Jupp Heynckes. Though they have not returned to those heights, Gladbach remain one of the Bundesliga's most cherished and historically significant clubs, regularly competing for European places.
