The Gabon national football team, known as the Panthers, represents Gabon in international football under the governance of the Fédération Gabonaise de Football. Founded in 1962 and a FIFA member since 1966, the team has qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on multiple occasions, reaching the quarter-finals in 2012 and 2015. Gabon co-hosted AFCON 2012 alongside Equatorial Guinea. The country's most celebrated footballer is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, former Arsenal and Barcelona striker, who spent much of his international career inspiring the Panthers. Despite strong individual talent, Gabon has yet to qualify for a FIFA World Cup. The team competes in CAF World Cup qualifiers and AFCON qualifying rounds, continuing to develop its football infrastructure and national talent pipeline.
